Job search update

(Composed 2014-02-01)

Things are moving full steam ahead on my application for a Secretary II position with the City, as I’ve probably described in previous posts. The hours are 8:30-4:30, which under normal circumstances will let me get to the shelter in time to (1) actually get in and (2) take a shower each day. I will need to phone the office Monday morning 02/03/14 to confirm that all’s in line, and possibly find out a start date.

Father pleads guilty to avoid death row after rape, murder of teen daughter

“Mesiti had hundreds of thousands of images involving child pornography. Hundreds of those images showed Mesiti’s daughter being sexually assaulted while she was obviously unconscious. Videos also showed the defendant setting up a hidden camera in the bedroom of an 8-year-old girl who lived in the apartment with him and his girlfriend in Los Angeles County at the time. Other videos and images showed a 16-year-old female Mesiti had befriended being sexually assaulted.”

Question

Are the white people who go to jail different from those who don’t?  Are the black people who go to jail different from those who don’t?

Senior moment

Late in the day Tuesday, it came to me that the older I get, and presumably the more mature and the wiser I get, the more likely people I meet are to do and say things that strike me as immature or foolish.

Points:

(1) The elder has a duty to offer her or his wisdom as needed.

(2) I must keep in mind:  that person is the me I once was.  I used to act that way.  I used to think that way.

How Emotionally Intelligent Are You? Here’s How To Tell

If you’re in a boat out on the water, and a storm comes up, and the boat’s rocking and at risk of tipping over; it’s critical to turn the boat to face into the wind.  This won’t stop the wind, but will keep it from rocking the boat.

Emotional intelligence is like that.  It won’t make life’s storms go away, but can help keep them from rocking your boat.

In my view, emotional intelligence is the same as emotional maturity or psychological or spiritual maturity.  This is what spiritual growth is all about.

Issues with upcoming posts

(Originally posted 01/29/14.)

In the process of “recycling” old posts on Wednesdays(*), I am now coming upon a number of posts with which I’m not completely comfortable. I probably would not write them, now or in the future, the way I did at the time; but I’m also still not sure exactly how I’d write them differently.

At the time I wrote those posts, I supposed my homelessness would be brief, and William Tell would soon enough become a public figure able to speak to what he saw as the pressing social issues. My homelessness continues eighteen months later, and my perceptions of those issues have changed.

Shopping list

(Originally posted 01/27/14.)

When I get my own place, there’s no need to move in all at once.  I can do it in stages; the shelter’s still available.  And this will make less for me to have to carry at any one time.

So, here’s my daydream of the sequence of different things I can buy on different occasions.  Lucky for me, I can probably buy all these items at Family Dollar.  I don’t plan to be extravagant, but with the income I’ll have, relative my needs, there’s no need to be cheap, either.

Exceptional horoscopes 11/07/17

It’s been some time since I’ve been in a position to pay any attention to horoscopes.

By accident, Sunday 11/05/17 I came across my horoscope for Friday 11/03/17:

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Get priorities in order. A philosophical shift might be required to implement a positive change. You can now understand that improving the quality of your life is as important a goal as increasing your income and status.

This was right on, as will be evidenced by the forthcoming post, “Sales pitch.” (The link won’t work until the post appears, and right now I don’t know when that will be.)  An affirmation: when my horoscope is accurate, it normally means that, at the moment, I’m on the right track in life.
